Échézeaux 2005

Colour: Pale, clear red. Aroma: Open, billowing raspberry perfumes of great purity and intrinsic sweetness.

Romanée-Conti 2005

Appearance: Clear scarlet-red. Aroma: Ah, yes: the violets, the lift, the brightness. Very much a flower wine at this early stage: poised, fragrant, elegant, seamless and complete.

Grands Échézeaux 2005

Colour: Clear, bright red. Aroma: Clearly different to Échézeaux, and not as winningly or freshly fruited at this stage: broader, grainier, more composed though less forthcoming.

Romanée-St Vivant 2005

Colour: Clear scarlet-red. Aroma: The fruit register is different from Échézeaux or Grands Échézeaux: chic blackcurrant and cherry replace the raspberry and plum.

Richebourg 2003

As deep in colour as the Échézeaux pair, with aromas of frank power, length and a kind of barrel-chested width, too.

Romanée-Conti 2003

One of the paler wines in the range. The aroma took me aback: it was almost Bordeaux-like.

Romanée-St Vivant 2003

Pale in colour. Aromatically, full of floral grace, charm and intrigue.

Échézeaux 2003

Deeply coloured for DRC. Earthy, full, frank and ripe at first sniff, with peppery raspberry ruffled by a little brisk oak. Later growing in aromatic amplitude: flamboyant and nosecatching.

La Tâche 2003

Relatively pale in colour, with warm, rich, settled and comfortable aromas, smooth and voluminous, like a coat.
