I've been a little slow in pointing out on this blog that I am now also writing a weekly blog column for www.decanter.com -- called 'Jefford on Monday'. I know it sounds like a particularly nasty hangover, but readers may nonetheless want to check out the Decanter site to see how that series unfolds: four blogs have been posted so far of the twelve commissioned. (The series may continue subsequently.) If you sign up for Decanter's newsfeed (which is useful), you memory will be jogged every Monday. This week's blog -- about the proximity of at least four of France's nuclear power stations to vineyard areas, including one just 10 km from three of the five Bordeaux first growths -- has provoked some outrage. Though I'm not sure why: France's nuclear power stations don't have an impeccable safety record, and it seems a pertinent issue to raise at present. This issue is certainly being much discussed in France this week.
