I've been a little slow in pointing out on this blog that I am now also writing a weekly blog column for www.decanter.com -- called 'Jefford on Monday'. I know it sounds like a particularly nasty hangover, but readers may nonetheless want to check out the Decanter site to see how that series unfolds: four blogs have been posted so far of the twelve commissioned. This week's blog -- about the proximity of at least four of France's nuclear power stations to vineyard areas, including one just 10 km from three of the five Bordeaux first growths -- has provoked some outrage. Though I'm not sure why: France's nuclear power stations don't have an impeccable safety record, and it seems a pertinent issue to raise at present. This issue is certainly being much discussed in France this week.
