Échézeaux 2005

Colour: Pale, clear red. Aroma: Open, billowing raspberry perfumes of great purity and intrinsic sweetness. There’s some ballast (a sense of crushed pips shadowing the fruit) but overall this is light and festive. Flavour: Intense, bright and sprightly flavour, once again with a polished sheen of raspberry. The tannins are very soft and supple (more so than in ‘03), upholstered with glycerous sweetness.

Pure, light and perfumed in the early part of the palate, full of feathery fairground fruit, then as it settles in the mouth you begin to see the flesh emerge from beneath the feathers and eventually the veins which line the flesh. Liquorice on the afterbreath. A dancing Échézeaux, full of almost unexpected charm, dissolving on the tongue.
