Black-purple; markedly darker than the 2003 Pétrus. Enchanting fresh fruit here, and even the distinctive sweet notes of this Pomerol landmark have a freshness and a precision to them in 2001, making for a compelling aromatic profile. A gorgeous palate, full of sweet cherry cream but backed by deft, firm, fine-grained tannins; liquorice and classic cedar-box spice to finish. Combines grace and power. Deliciously drinkable already, yet there will be many further levels of complexity for those who can wait. A resounding success for the vintage.
