Hallo Roy and thanks for your question.
Confession time: I have never visited Slovenia. I have tasted quite a few wines over the last couple of years, though, and there's no doubt that growers there are trying very hard and coming up with some interesting blends and approaches. You can, though, taste the growing pains from time to time: too much oak, for example, or the crafting of wines with dramatic intensity but whose balances appeal more to local tastes than they will to international tastes. And I can never quite decide if I like Ribolla or not.
There is a specialist importer in the UK called LateVintage.com, run by a very nice guy called Valdo Sodin. You might want to contact Vlado via this link to his website: latevintage.com.
Vlado's growers had a lot of success in the 2006 Decanter World Wine Awards and the 2006 International Wine Challenge. I liked the clean, classic look of www.vintage59.com a lot, and appreciated the humour (or humor) of your approach. Some fine growers, too.
Good luck with things and I hope the trip goes well if you take it. Hope to meet you, too. I guess the advantage of following a girl from Norwich to Sydney is that the local options on a fall-back position are promising. But that's probably a story for another day.
