Château Latour 2002

Opaque black-purple. Gloriously forthcoming aromatic profile already: frankincense and milk chocolate provides a note of exotic plenitude, but the classicism of fresh blackcurrants is there, too, as well as the roastiness left by 2003's burning summer. On the palate, the wine is deep-textured, long, sinewy, wonderfully enveloping. The tannins are ample yet lissom. Fruit still provides the core, but it's a fiery, leonine fruit, full of springy weight and power. The masculinity and forcefulness is expected; the young meaty Pauillac freshness surprises. The finish lasts 30 seconds. A wine with a dazzling future.
