Walnut colour. Quite casky in aroma: warm wood/ship's cabin. Some Sercial-like eggy qualities; some mint, some verbena. Unsublime. On the palate, better than the aromas suggested: Bual-like sweetness; tangy, almost savoury; peach skin and fig, with walnut nuttiness and vivid, appley acidity to refresh. Stylistically, typical Cossart Gordon lightness and finesse. On the basis of this bottle, Bastardo doesn't seem to have the personality of the four leading noble varietals, even if it has more cut and thrust than Tinta Negra Mole.
