Six Haiku from Peat Smoke and Spirit

1: Bowmore
The loch a silver tongue.
Samples: drawn gold. Then snowflakes:
the sky-stepping geese.

2: Bunnahabhain
Icicles at dawn
on bracken's brown lace. Higher:
breath, curling through horn.

3: Weather
The sky a blue forest
where rain panthers come padding
-- to rip the land's flesh.

4: Caol Ila
In the hill's pocket
glow six copper acorns. Food
for wind-harried souls.

5: Nature
A foam of flowers,
dung, carrion, the gorged buzzard
chick: June's field of genes.

6: Islay Today
A life on the edge:
fought, bare-hand; fraught with knowing
and sudden moonlight.
